Terms and Phrases
- Ejidataros
- The peasant farmers who live in the oyamel forests where the monarch
butterflies overwinter. For those of you who might have some difficulty
pronouncing the term ejidatarios, this might be of some help. Spanish is
different, but it is not too difficult once you recognize a couple of simple
elements. Each syllable is pronounced distinctly and each vowel has its own
sound. E-JI-DA-TAR-I-OS is pronounced as follows:
- E is pronounced like a broad A as in "a tree"
- JI is pronounced like HE as in "he went to Mexico"
- DA is pronounced like DAH.
- TAR is pronounced much like our word "tar" but with a softer "a"
sound as it was in DA.
- I is pronounced like a broad E.
- OS is pronounced like the "os" in Cherrios.
