The Karner Blue butterfly is an endangered species found in small portions of New Hampshire, New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and Minnesota. The wild blue lupine is the only food plant for the Karner caterpillar. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, it is very difficult for the Karner Blue to move and spread, resulting in very isolated populations.
