"Spread Your Wings and Fly" Seminar
in Newark, NJ

These pictures were taken during the July 1998 seminar held in Newark, NJ. The following are all used without permission, but with apologies. We'd like to thank everyone for pretending they didn't know their pictures were being taken.

Ancient secrets of origami revealed by Rick Mikula: how to fold butterfly shipping envelopes

Bearded prophet returns from the mountain with ten commandments (of butterfly rearing) on two tablets of pink stone.

Enraptured audience: is it lunchtime yet?

Good shot of ceiling tiles and support column.

Gentlemen in wild shirt thinking: "is my pony tail longer than Rick's?"

Female in back row making funny face is Pam Mikula, WebMaster of our butterfly site, bird site, and dragonfly site. The niece of Rick Mikula, she assumes this picture won't go on the web if she makes it look silly. Hah! On her left is James Paolino, who works with her on the bird website.

Woman in striped shirt thinking: wonder if I turned off the oven? Woman in back wishing she arrived earlier so she could sit up front.

Rick Mikula telling admirers: "my pony tail is WAY longer than the guy in the wild shirt!"

Heather? HERE. Pete? HERE. Steve? HERE

Light blue shirt: "If I hide behind the guy in the wild shirt, Rick won't call on me."

"These butterfly parachutes are now available in our nature store for only . . ."

Standing woman shouts: "yuck, I just sat on a butterfly!"

Guy at end of line thinking: "this lunch had better be worth standing in line for."

Blonde woman at left saying: "Newark is noted for its cold deli platters." Blurred elbowless arm at left of picture probably a ghost.

Rick Mikula: "It all started when I was born in a log cabin . . ."

Woman on left asks: "why are those two sitting back there?" Woman in pink answers: "they snuck in without paying." Chippendale dancer arrives at left to begin performance.

Woman in white shirt saying: "the old guy taking pictures is really cute, in a chubby sort of way."

"Don't you dare use this picture, father"

"HEY, you in the striped shirt, WAKE UP!"

"This is a good picture of my wife, my grandson, and me in Atlantic City."

Guy in striped shirt: "he didn't have to yell like that!"

"This is how you call a taxi in Newark. Don't appear too anxious."

Woman with pencil thinking: will this be on the exam?

Picture of standing ovation at end of seminar from worshipful audience!!!!!

In actuality, it was a great seminar, with a superb audience. We thank them for accepting this page with good humor (we hope - they haven't seen it yet). We wish them all the luck in the world as they pursue this fascinating hobby and business.

And thanks to Jack Mikula for these great pictures (signed) Jack Mikula

We didn't want Jack to feel left out, so we decided to include a photo of him at his 50th birthday party. He was so happy to get his toy trolley!
