The Butterfly WebSite

Attention Live Specimen Collectors

Dear Friends:

It is always so refreshing to find others that love butterflies for the beautiful creatures that they are. It is better still to find devoted individuals that are willing to create habitats and rear butterflies. As I'm sure you are aware of, both are diminishing at an alarming rate.

What most people are not aware of is that for a butterfly to cross a state line, it must be accompanied by a permit. This may sound harsh, but in fact it is good. Such laws and requirements may have prevented such 'accidents' as the Gypsy Moth and Cabbage White butterfly from happening. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has a fine website detailing these regulations. We have summarized part of the regulations on our site, but we urge you to visit the USDA site for the most up-to-date information.

We sincerely do not want anyone to be in any type of violation with or without their knowledge. It is best to find out from the top. Then you can proceed comfortably.

So please keep this in mind when ordering livestock from any vendor.

Sincerely,
Rick Mikula, Web Naturalist
